Hello students and parents! Welcome to Wiley Elementary and a wonderful year in first grade. I am excited to work with your child. My goal is to provide meaningful instruction, positive reinforcement, and an exciting classroom experience. Thank you for entrusting your child to me each day! I feel fortunate to be a part of this exciting year of learning and growth in your child's life! With your help and support, I look forward to an outstanding school year.

Room 18 Information:
March Birthdays:
Peyton: 3/6
Calvin: 3/7
Elenora: 3/13
McKenzie: 3/23
Mrs. Vollmert: 3/27
Birthdays: I would like to celebrate each child’s birthday on or as close to his/her birthday as possible. If you would like to send in a Non-Edible Treat to celebrate, please feel free to send them in with your child. Some ideas could be a new classroom game or book, bookmarks, bubbles, fidgets, stickers, pencils... We have 24 children in our classroom. Please refrain from sending home individual invitations to parties at school unless you are inviting the whole class. Thank You!
Curriculum: PLEASE review the 1st Grade Curriculum Packet, especially if you were unable to attend Curriculum Night as it will answer many questions that you might have about 1st grade. This will be handed out or sent home on Wiley's Curriculum Night Open House in September. There is also information on academics on the Utica Community Schools Website
Arrival/Breakfast: The school day begins at 9:00 a.m. Students need to line-up in their designated area (Door 5) by 8:55AM where they will be let into the building. Please do NOT leave your child unattended until a teacher comes outside to supervise at 8:50AM. Breakfast is available before school from 8:40-9:00. Students should enter for breakfast through Door 4 (around the east side of the building) before the start of the school day and will be supervised in the gym while they eat until dismissed at 8:55 to their classroom.
Lunch/Dismissal: Lunch will be from 12:10-12:30, followed by recess until 12:30-12:50. Dismissal will be at 3:50 p.m. and all parent-pick up will be exiting through the main doors (Door 1) in the front of the building. Half day dismissal is at 12:04 p.m.
Snack: The students are allowed a healthy snack to be eaten during the morning. Students will not be allowed to eat snack during carpet time. Some suggestions are fruit, veggies, crackers, cheese, stick yogurt, etc. If your child brings in a snack that needs to have a spoon or fork, please pack it with their snack. PLEASE PACK A HEALTHY, PEANUT-FREE SNACK IN YOUR CHILD'S BACKPACK, NOT IN THEIR LUNCHBOX. Water bottles are also encouraged during the day. The reusable one's work best, labeled with your child's name. Water should be the only liquid in the water bottles. All other drinks should be in lunch boxes for lunch time. Thank you.
Daily Folders: Your 1st grader should bring home their DAILY YELLOW folder every day. This Communication Folder will contain completed work, notes, homework and book orders. Please go through this folder and return to school the next day. Help your child develop a routine for home unpacking folder, water bottle and lunch box. The DAILY YELLOW folder is their "TICKET" into the classroom each morning when I welcome them through the door. If they forget their folders, they will not bring any of their daily papers home for that day.
iPADs: This year iPads and chargers will stay in the classroom for school use only. I do not require homework on screens.
Parties: We are planning to have 4 parties this year: Halloween, Christmas, Valentine, and an End of the Year party. More information and sign-ups will come once these are closer.
Donating to your child's classroom is a great way to add something NEW to their year! Please see our classroom Wishlist below. Thank you!
